The US midterm elections head up a busy week for markets. It's also a packed week for central banks, with the RBA, Riksbank, and Bank of England all expected to raise rates, while Norges Bank is forecast to hold rates steady. Updated projections and press conferences will determine whether further tightening is likely as policymakers contend with persistent inflation, higher energy costs and restrictive financial conditions.
US voters head to the polls on Tuesday, with control of Congress carrying implications for fiscal policy, regulation and the final two years of President Trump’s term. Results may take time to settle if key Senate contests are close. Markets will also monitor Middle East developments and oil prices, alongside earnings from Apple, AMD and Novo Nordisk.
The data calendar includes October’s US employment report, Eurozone inflation and the US ISM surveys. Canada’s labour force survey, Japanese wages, and New Zealand employment figures are also due. Several emerging-market central banks meet, including those in Brazil, Poland, the Czech Republic, Malaysia and Mexico. (LS – Continue Reading)

Jobs week lies ahead for the US, which means a heavy slate of data ahead of the capstone monthly employment report from the Bureau of Labor Statistics on Friday.
Forecasters expect the report to show monthly job growth more than doubled in October, to 65,000, while the unemployment rate remained steady at 4.2%. That would leave the Federal Reserve on track for additional interest-rate increases in the months ahead to combat inflation. (BBG – Continue Reading)
President Donald Trump's White House has spent months preparing for a possible Democratic takeover of Congress, developing plans to keep advancing major parts of his agenda through executive power while bracing for investigations of his administration, according to a White House official and two people familiar with the plans.
Senior officials, including deputy chief of staff Stephen Miller and budget director Russell Vought, have been working with the White House Counsel's Office since April to identify executive actions on immigration, tariffs, housing costs and federal spending that Trump could pursue without congressional approval, said the three people, who spoke on the condition of anonymity. China’s central bank launched daily overnight reverse repurchase operations on Monday, kicking off a revamped liquidity framework that establishes the short-term tool as its primary policy anchor.
The People’s Bank of China conducted 541 billion yuan ($81.3 billion) of overnight reverse repurchases on Monday at 1.25%. After accounting for maturing reverse repos, it resulted in a net withdrawal of 515 billion yuan from the banking system, according to Bloomberg calculations. (BBG – Continue Reading)
