Iran’s top negotiator Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf says that if Iran does not benefit from its memorandum of understanding with the US, “we have no reason to adhere to such an understanding.”
Iran’s national security depends on maintaining “Iranian arrangements” in the Strait of Hormuz, Ghalibaf adds in a statement posted on Telegram.

There was little nuance in Wednesday’s Bank of Canada rate announcement. In fact, there was little of material significance from the central bank -- intentionally so.
As widely expected, the BoC’s Governing Council kept interest rates unchanged, leaving the overnight rate at 2.25%, the Bank Rate at 2.5% and the deposit rate at 2.20%.
In the accompanying statement, policymakers said that despite growing signs of an economic recovery and inflation being projected to ease, there were still “important risks and uncertainties related to the war in the Middle East and US trade policy.”
The communiqué was moderately upbeat about the prospects for the Canadian economy. However, analysts noted that its forward guidance offered little indication of the likely direction of monetary policy.

The U.S. Mint will start producing a new $1 gold coin bearing President Trump's face, U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent announced on X Wednesday, the latest example of how Mr. Trump is trying to leave a mark on federal symbols and institutions.
Part of the administration's efforts to commemorate the U.S.'s 250th birthday, Bessent said the coin will "honor the enduring legacy of liberty and a lasting symbol of patriotism."
"Featuring President Trump, it celebrates the strength of American values, and the promise of a nation dedicated to preserving freedom for all," he added.
