Software Stocks Show Signs of Sentiment Bottom
Monday’s sharp selloff in software stocks carried many of the hallmarks of capitulation. The rout appeared driven by panic, with investors seemingly attempting to exit positions at any price. Such indiscriminate selling often signals extreme negative sentiment, potentially marking a short-term bottom.
Yesterday’s rebound added weight to that view. OPEC+ is likely to consider raising its oil output by 137,000 barrels per day for April, three sources with knowledge of OPEC+ thinking said as the group prepares for peak summer demand and a price boost from tensions between the U.S. and OPEC member Iran.
The resumption of output increases after a three-month pause would allow OPEC leader Saudi Arabia and members such as the UAE to regain market share at a time when other OPEC+ members, such as Russia and Iran, contend with Western sanctions while Kazakhstan recovers from a series of oil production setbacks. UK Business and Trade Secretary Peter Kyle is meeting European Commission officials on Wednesday and Thursday to push for closer EU-UK ties – and argue that any European Preference scheme should include London.
After its failure to strike a deal to tap into the EU's defence for loan scheme, the UK is now on a charm offensive to secure "Made in Europe" access for its industry.
UK Business and Trade Secretary Peter Kyle is in Brussels on Wednesday and Thursday to press the case for UK involvement in the European preference scheme the Commission is drafting, as speculation circulates that it will be limited to EU countries only.
"We have a shared challenge on the continent of Europe about economic security," Kyle told journalists after meeting Commission Vice President Teresa Ribera, adding that "the continent of Europe should come together" to build "resilience" at a time of increasing worldwide economic tensions.
